March 2009

This month we fulfilled a lifelong dream and went to Cuba for two weeks. We spent the first week in Havana and completely fell in love with the city. The poverty and hardship was overwhelming but the thing that struck us was the warmth, resilience and joie de vivre of the Cuban people. We were also blown away by the incredible architecture, beautiful buildings, wonderful music and yes, the legendary mojitos!

Since it’s still hard to get basic things like shoes without resorting to buying things on the black market, we didn’t expect there to be a thriving art scene in Havana. Yet seven days a week, you can walk down to the Artisans Market in the old town and find local artists and their friends selling truly great paintings and photographs. We bought a fresh canvas by a street artist that clearly shares our fixation with pop art since the work is titled Pink Revolutionary Soup!

Febr 2009

After a fresh coat of paint, Steph’s studio is finally ready for action. It’s still freezing but there’s now a kettle to supply endless cups of coffee, hot chocolate and rocket fuel.

They’re being kept under wraps but she’s currently putting the finishing touches to a couple of new prints. Check back for further info and a sneak preview over the next few weeks...

Jan 2009

Happy New Year. We can’t wait to see Barack Obama become President and change history for good. America must be counting the days and getting ready to rejoice.

Back here in old blighty, we have been spring-cleaning our studio and sorting through lots of old projects. One of our discoveries was this collection of photos we took on a trip to Tokyo a few years back. Whilst we were there, we had the good fortune of meeting the artist Yoshitomo Nara and interviewing and photographing Japanese pop star Cornelius for The Scotsman.

We would love to go back, eat lots of sushi, drink lots of sake and explore the other suburbs of Tokyo one day. And we heartily recommend listening to Cornelius.

Dec 2008

Happy Christmas. We have just made our first chocolate log and are looking forward to drinking lots of mulled wine and seeing people
swimming in the sea on Christmas Day. Yes, really.

We have been working on various new projects but the biggest news is that we are going to be renting a studio for screenprinting and
painting with four other artists in Hove. There’s no heating and the floor bows in the middle but we don’t care because it used to belong to
Dan Baldwin, one of our favourite local artists. One of his signatures is Mexican skulls and there’s lots of traces of him around the studio.

Nov 2008

We have been busy designing a site for brilliant photographer Pete Holm. He uses a fish-eye lense and we are completely in awe of his shots of The Burning Man festival in Nevada desert. We’ll add the site to the links page as soon as it’s up and running.

In the meantime, Steph has released two more screenprints. The first is called 'Girl Under Fire' and is a collage thats available in two different colour combinations; black, white and gold and steel, white and pink.

The second print is called Glare and is a striking black and white print with a hint of gold. Tim at the lovely Fairtrade Gallery made some wonderful white box frames for both and they look terrific hung on the wall of our studio. Steph wasn’t aware of it until the ink had dried but there’s a definite Warholian feel to Glare.

Oct 2008

From 22-26 Oct Bonnie and Clyde will be taking part in Affordable Art Fair at Battersea. We’ve never exhibited there before but are told
its a good atmosphere and thousands of people usually visit. If you’re planning to go along, come and say hello. We’ll be selling all our
screenprints to date, framed and unframed, alongside fellow Brighton artists Ben Allen, Anna Kyriacou and Jane Sampson on the BIP stand.

In-between getting ready for AAF and starting a couple of new projects, Steph has finished a new screenprint. It’s called God Bless
Agyness Deyn and yes, it’s a cheeky homage to both the British supermodel and the original cut’n’paste punk rocker, Jamie Reid. The
print is available in gold and black and white and black from Art Republic and our online shop.

Sept 2008

We are thrilled that the good folks at Art Republic in Brighton have offered to sell the first series of limited edition Bonnie and Clyde screenprints.
If you’re visiting, pop into the gallery on Bond Street and take a look. They stock original prints and limited editions by everyone from Warhol, David Hockney and Peter Blake to Jamie Reid, Banksy and Obey so we are in good company!

The series is called New York Street Scenes and Steph, our head honcho, designed and printed them herself at BIP. All the images are in black and white with a shot of colour and are taken from Steph’s mammoth collection of photos of the big apple.

Sept 2008

We have just returned from a trip to New York and our favourite seaside resort, Coney Island. Long-term fans of Coney’s faded charm, fabulous freakshow and hand-painted signs, we were gutted to hear that the amusement park was closing for good the day we visited. There’s talk of the
famous Cyclone ride staying but the rest of the land looks set to be cleared and made into apartments by greedy developers. The legendary Coney Island dancers were still out and dancing on the boardwalk but there was a definite feeling of sadness in the air.

We will be posting more photos of our trip as soon as we’ve had chance to look at them so remember to check back. xx
